Brazilian art publication for global circulation.

Context

We live a moment of expansion and internationalization of Brazilian art market. This phenomenon can be observed in the growth of participation of Brazilian galleries in international fairs, the insertion of contemporary artistic production in foreign exhibitions and collections and in the increasingly significant presence of foreign galleries in the two Brazilian fairs, SP Arte and Art Rio.

The prognosis is unanimous: Latin America has become an important market in which Brazil is leading. The data released by the market research conducted by the Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art (ABACT) in partnership Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) confirm this leadership: in the last two years, the turnover of contemporary art galleries in the country grew on average 44% , well above other sectors of the economy. Its volume of exportation also grew by 40% between 2010 and 2011.

Brazilian contemporary art has the force needed to, very soon, be turned into a new sector of the Brazilian economy.

The publication

Although our artistic system has already demonstrated maturity for exporting its production, we didn’t have yet an editorial vehicle that could export our critical reflection on art.

In recent years, international publications aimed to investigate the Brazilian context and the background of our vibrant artistic landscape. However, they do not always inform property, lacking depth and knowledge.

Therefore, PLATFORM was created as vehicle to export our know-how and our critical reflection.

Concept, objectives and target audience

PLATFORM will be published annually, in English, with a commitment to document, contextualize and map the Brazilian art scene today , with its various agents and legitimizing instances: artists , institutions , galleries , collectors , critics, curators, partnerships, independent spaces, etc .

This is a content addresses to an international audience, to be published once a year in partnership between seLecT magazine and Latitude.

Global launch: May 2014
